Lifeguards still at sea — no work, no pay

“The CPO has until  March 17, or we not working Easter weekend!” said Augustus Sylvester, branch chairman of the lifeguards. There was no reconciliation between the  lifeguards and the CPO, yesterday, when they held their meeting. After protesting through the streets of Port-of-Spain on Thursday, the lifeguards met with Sandra Marchak, permanent secretary to the Prime Minister, and Herbert Atwell, chief advisor to the Prime Minister, at Whitehall. Although, meetings for the past eight months had proved futile, the lifeguards were told again to meet with the CPO’s office. “We did not come to any conclusions, and we didn’t expect to hear that today! They are still talking matrix,” Sylvester told Newsday. Robert Guiseppi, NUGFW President General, left in his vehicle without comment.
