St Ann’s man charged with Frederick Street killing

After appearing on a charge of possession of arms and ammunition and assault of three police officers, a St Ann’s man appeared on a charge of murder arising out of the shooting death of a man outside the Port-of-Spain prison two weeks ago. Carlos Campos of Hololo Road, St Ann’s, appeared before Magistrate David Harris in the Port-of-Spain Fifth Court yesterday, where he was charged with the murder of Godfrey Henry on Monday February 28. The charge, which was laid by Insp Christopher Holder of the Port-of-Spain CID, was laid indictably.

Attorneys Mario Merritt and Wayne Sturge appeared for Campos. Merritt, on his client’s behalf, applied for disclosure of relevant information which he felt was pertinent to his client’s case. Merritt also asked if the prosecution of its readiness to proceed with the matter, since the defence was prepared to begin. “I share the opinion of my colleague, Mr Sturge, that our wish is that this matter could have a similar speed as the Naraynsingh’s,” Merritt submitted. The matter was then transferred to the Eighth Court where it will be heard before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls. The accused, who was remanded into custody, will reappear on Monday.
