Govt concerned about crime
Government is concerned about the crime situation in the country, Public Administration Minister Dr Lenny Saith stated yesterday. At yesterday’s post-Cabinet meeting, he announced that Cabinet expressed its concern at the resurgence of kidnapping and crime in general. As a result, they discussed some of the possible inititives that could be taken. Saith stated that there would be a note coming to Cabinet next week aimed at addressing the situation.
Responding to reports that the resurgence in kidnapping was connected to the need of certain people to raise money for legal fees and that the kidnapping trend was likely to continue, Saith said he couldn’t comment on that report because he didn’t have information to support, or reject that view. “I am sure that the Ministry of National Security, looking at what is happening, would take all that into account,” he said. He said Government would continue to take whatever measures it believes necessary to deal with the crime situation. He added however that the Ministry of National Security may not always be in a position to give all the specifics (of what they are doing). “I think that it is clearly understood that many of the things that you do can’t be done publicly,” he said.
