MP wants TSTT to relocate

WITH work already in progress on installation of a TSTT Digital Loop Carrier System at Irvin Park, San Fernando, the area’s MP, Diane Seukeran is calling on the telecommunications company to relocate the system to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH). The system is being installed to improve service to residents in San Fernando, as well as facilitate high speed Internet access.

Seukeran, who visited the Irvin Park site yesterday along with TSTT’s Chief Operations Officer, Bernard Mitchell, later told reporters that residents had bombarded her Independence Avenue office with calls on Thursday expressing concern about the installation of the system at the park. “The residents look out for each other especially with the high spate of criminal activities going on in the country and they don’t need any obstacles in the way that would prevent this,” Seukeran said.

She also expressed concern for the safety of children who frequent the park to play: “We are concerned for the health of these children therefore we are very cautious as to what system is being installed at the park.” Seukeran said she is willing to compromise with TSTT “to find the correct and appropriate location for the system other than the park and we suggest the compound of the San Fernando General Hospital.” Mitchell gave the assurance  no radiation would emanate from the system and pose a health hazard to residents, especially the children. “We will explore the option of using the compound of the hospital as early as Monday (tomorrow) morning and see how best this situation can be a win-win for all parties involved,” he said.
