Smiling mom of two in court for murder

A SMILING Wendy Martinez, 23, a Sangre Grande mother of two, appeared before Sangre Grande Magistrate Cheryl Ann Blake yesterday charged with the murder of Henry Rodney, who was stabbed to death. Rodney, a construction worker, was stabbed last Thursday at Ramdass Street, Sangre Grande. He is reported to have been digging for worms when he was killed. On Saturday, Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson gave instructions to the police to lay a charge of murder against Martinez.

The accused wore a smile on her face as she was being led to court by Woman Cpl Beverly Paul, who laid the charge. When the charge of murder was read out in court, Martinez continued smiling and stared at members of the public who packed the courtroom. Since murder is a capital offence no bail could be granted and the smiling woman was remanded to the woman’s section of remand yard in Golden Grove, Arouca.
