Beach lovers beware!
Beach lovers heading to the seaside for the Easter weekend, beware! There will be no lifeguards on duty at Manzanilla, Las Cuevas and Salybia beaches, over the long holiday, Tourism Minister Howard Chin Lee disclosed. However, despite the current impasse between the lifeguards and the Government, lifeguards will be on duty at the popular seafronts of Mayaro, Maracas and Tyrico, Chin Lee assured. Stating that the monthly-paid lifeguards have promised to work over the Easter weekend, Chin Lee said the 18 miles stretch of beach at Mayaro would have 32 lifeguards, plus six supervisors as well as the Coast Guard assisting in foot patrols.
He said Maracas and Tyrico would also have lifeguard service, and that there would be “temporary beach safety officers” at Los Iros, Vessigny and Quinam. These are not lifeguards, but are persons “experienced in open water life savings” who possess awards of merit from the Trinidad and Tobago Lifesaving Society. But at Manzanilla, Las Cuevas and Salybia beaches, there will be no service. Chin Lee urged the population to practice the “necessary precautions” knowing that there will be no lifeguards available at these fronts.
