Catholic head finds TT — a nation filled with violence

THE ONGOING state of racism and crime in TT has been linked by the Archbishop of TT, Edward Gilbert, to a lack of trust, suspicion and hatred, which have resulted in the nation being filled with violence. Gilbert yesterday delivered the Holy Thursday eulogy before a large congregation of parishioners, who attended mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Port-of-Spain, during the washing of the feet ceremony. Gilbert preached on the privacy of love, and he found the need for love in the country was important.

Gilbert praised Prime Minister Patrick Manning for asking clergy members to become activists in fighting crime, but believed that too many people have stopped practising their faith. “Faith is being stopped in all religions. Love and justice should be taught to the young people in society, so they can make a positive contribution to the nation,” said Gilbert. Twelve persons, indicative of the 12 disciples from different organisations in the church, were brought  to the altar, where Gilbert performed the ritual washing of the feet.
