Archbishop: Redemption available to all people

Archbishop Edward Gilbert yesterday urged Catholics to see the suffering of Jesus as the road to salvation and to choose it “as a means of freeing thy self from the slavery of sin.” Delivering the sermon at the liturgy of the Passion at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, he said, “we live in an age in which people say there is no such thing as sin. They do not want to talk about it or dismissed it.”

Gilbert said as a result many people do not have values and Catholics must begin evangelising and reaching them. “The way they are living, the emptiness they are feeling is unnecessary. There is another way through Jesus.” He said the Passion and the Death of Jesus were God’s offerings of salvation and the answer must always be “yes.” He said many people were not loved and spent their lives searching for love, but the Passion and death proved God’s love. “It is his gift to us and brings forth redemption to enable us to hope.” Gilbert said redemption was available for all people without exception.
