Girl shot in chest out of danger
Aveda Mc Car-thy, the two-year-old girl who was shot in the chest by a stray bullet last week, has been removed from the danger list by doctors attending to her at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC). Aveda is expected to be removed from the Intensive Care Unit of the paediatric section to the surgical ward today. Doctors at EWMSC told Newsday that the child is improving but appears to be still in shock.
Almost all the tubes to which she was hooked up have been removed, with only the respirator still attached. A spine specialist who carried out tests on Aveda on Monday broke the good news to her parents that the damage to her spine was minimum and she would be able to walk. She will be kept at the institution for observation. Police investigators told Newsday that they have identified one of the two gunmen who opened fire on the car in which Aveda was an occupant. Her father Ricardo Mc Carthy suffered gunshot wounds to the hands and feet. He discharged himself from the hospital. The suspect is believed to be in hiding.
