Archbishop Burke to represent the Caribbean at Pope’s funeral

THE President of the Antilles Episcopal Conference, Archbishop Lawrence Burke, will represent the Caribbean region from the Bahamas to Suriname at Friday’s funeral of Pope John Paul II at Vatican City. Archbishop of Port-of-Spain Edward Gilbert said yesterday it was decided that there will be no individual representative at the funeral, because of the number of people expected to attend. These include 300 heads of state and two million persons. Gilbert said the other bishops will converge in Suriname over the weekend for the bishops’ conference. Archbishop Burke was recently transferred from the Bahamas to Jamaica.
