Maxi-taxi operator stabbed

A maxi-taxi operator is now warded in a stable condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) after being stabbed several times in the chest by would-be bandits. According to reports, red band maxi-taxi operator Devanand Gourdeen, 24, was about to open the gate to his La Resource Road home at D’Abadie around 9.45 pm on Sunday, when he was accosted by two men who demanded money.


The maxi-taxi driver fought back and was stabbed several times in the chest. However, the attackers ran off without taking anything. Gourdeen’s screams raised an alarm, and he was rushed to the Arima District Hospital and then transferred to the EWMSC where he was warded after surgery. Visiting the scene were Insp Daniel, Cpl Philips and PC Haynes. Cpl Philips is investigating.
