Denbows dispute set for April 25 trial
THE LEGAL dispute between the State and Port-of-Spain attorney Dr Claude Denbow and his wife Donna has been set for trial on April 25. When the matter came up before Justice Ian Benjamin at the Port-of-Spain Chamber Court yesterday, Denbow was instructed to file affidavits by April 15, and the State to respond by April 21. Both parties were instructed to provide Benjamin with written submissions by April 22. The Denbows had filed a lawsuit against the State over a planned search of their offices by local and foreign investigators.
The couple had been granted an ex-parte injunction on March 8 by Madame Justice Amrika Tiwary-Reddy to prevent the investigators from searching their St Vincent Street offices, as investigations continued into the construction of a desalination plant. The injunction remains in effect until the outcome of the motion. The Denbows were represented by attorneys Seenath Jairam SC, Dr Fenton Ramsahoye SC, Desmond Allum SC, Om Lalla, Kelvin Ramkissoon, and Darrel Allahar. Douglas Mendes SC and Michael Quamina appeared for Attorney General John Jeremie, Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul, Snr Supt Maurice Piggott, head of the Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau, Insp John Telesford, and former FBI agent Paul Kelly.
