Four hospitalised in 2 Tobago accidents
An East Tobago man is now warded at the Scarborough Hospital, in a satisfactory condition, following an accident at the Spring Garden traffic light intersection along the Claude Noel Highway yesterday afternoon. Fire officers had to cut 57-year-old Jason “Tallman” James from his silver Primera wagon after he was hit head-on by a blue Honda Accord being driven by 17-year-old Akende Woodley of Bacolet Gardens. According to eyewitnesses, around 1:45 pm, James of Mt St George was travelling west along the Claude Noel Highway, when he was struck by Woodley, who was travelling in the opposite direction.
Woodley reportedly overtook a line of vehicles in an effort to “beat the traffic light” and was attempting to negotiate a right turn on to the Milford Road bypass off the highway when he struck James. James was pinned behind the inflated airbags while a female passenger, Claudette Governor who was rescued by onlookers, was said to have been bleeding from the mouth and appeared to have sustained injuries to the back. She was subsequently taken to the hospital by EHS personnel. Woodley reportedly suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, while James suffered knee and head injuries. The three are said to be resting comfortably at the Scarborough Hospital. Cpl Frasier of the Scarborough Traffic Department is heading investigations.
Approximately two hours later, emergency officials rushed to the Canaan/Bon Accord area where a woman was pinned in a vehicle during a three-car smash-up. According to reports, Dean Wilson was driving a rented white B15 Sunny, and he attempted to enter the Claude Noel Highway from a private road, when his vehicle came into contact with a red Mazda driven by Deolal Balgobin, which was travelling west along the highway. The B15 then struck a black B14 Sunny that was travelling east along the highway. The injured female, who was a passenger of the white B15, was rushed to the Scarborough Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition. Officers of the Crown Point Police Station are continuing investigations.
