Saith: No shame over AKS resignation
Government is not embarrassed by the resignation of Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) head Adam Joseph, according to Public Administration Minister Dr Lenny Saith yesterday. Saith said people had a right to exercise the option for early retirement and he (Joseph) had done so. “I don’t see that as an embarrassment to the Government,” he said. “If he gets a good job, then all power to him,” he said, adding, “He may want a career change as all of us need to do now and then.” Concerning the implications for the AKS, Saith said that question should be posed to the Minister of National Security.
Adams, 53, reportedly quit to take up a lucrative job at State-owned Petrotrin’s security department. Saith, who announced weeks ago that a note was to come to Cabinet dealing with crime initatives, was asked about the “new crime plan.” “The only people who have crime plans are the criminals,” he quipped. Saith, who stressed that he never said anything about a “new crime plan,” chastised the media, saying, Everytime you talk about crime, the media converts that into a (new) crime plan. Every time the Government takes a step to deal with crime, it is not a crime plan,” he said.
