Belmont Boys in limbo

ALL schools are expected to re-open today following the two week Easter break, except for the Belmont Boys’ RC. Communications Specialist at the Ministry of Education, Mer-vyn Critchlow, told Newsday as far as he was aware everything was in place for today’s reopening. The sentiments were also expressed by president of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA), Clyde Permell. He said only the Belmont Boys’ RC will not re-open as scheduled.

This is as a result of the relocation of students to other buildings in the Belmont community, as the school was shut down because of unsafe conditions by TTUTA last term. The ministry subsequently agreed that the building was unsafe and attempts were made to locate alternative sites for the children.

In a release, the ministry said teachers at the school are to report to the St Francois RC Parish Church Hall today. Tomorrow, pupils of the Standard Four classes are to report to the St Francis Church annex for classes, and Standard Two and Three students will begin classes on Wednesday at the St Martin RC School, Belmont.

All other students — Infants, Standard One and those who have written the SEA exam, are to remain home until the ministry concludes arrangements for alternative accommodation.
