Six arrested for murder

SIX persons were arrested in Laventille yesterday for two separate murders. According to reports, a combined team of 25 soldiers and 25 police officers coordinated by ACP (Crime) Gilbert Reyes with “field operations” coordinated by Insp Sahadeo Singh converged on  Laventille. The team proceeded to search several homes and cars resulting in six persons being held.


Three were held for Thursday’s murder of Aaron Browne, 26, at Foster Road, John John, and another three for the February 21 murder of Devon Phillips, 19, at Quarry Road, Laventille. Browne, of Nelson Street was shot dead in a hail of gunfire, while Phillips, of Picton Road, Laventille was killed in similar fashion. The men, between the ages of 18 and 21, are all expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate on Monday. Also assisting were Sgts Winston Stewart, Randolph Boyce and PC Edgar Ransom.
