Another downtown shootout

CITY Gate was closed down for 30 minutes yesterday as army and police sought the whereabouts of two gun-toting fugitives. According to reports, two armed men robbed the salesman and driver of a Blue Waters delivery truck on Charlotte Street of an undisclosed amount of cash at 11.30 am.

A policeman in the area at the same time saw the incident and chased the men on foot to City Gate, while exchanging gunfire with the bandits as screaming passers-by were forced to duck for cover. At City Gate, the entire compound was shut down and cordoned off  by several officers from various joint/army patrols who came to the aid of the policeman, but they came up empty-handed. City Gate was reopened to the public at midday. Less than 24 hours before yesterday’s City Gate shootout, one man was shot dead and one woman injured  on the Brian Lara Promenade, and another man gunned down in John John.
