Tobago Express flights fully booked
Although there were no long lines of disgruntled passengers at the airline’s counters, by Wednesday afternoon all Tobago Express flights from Tobago to Trinidad were booked solid forcing “late comers” to standby. While operations are not yet back to normal, staff told Newsday that since the airline resumed operations late last week after the recent crash-landing of one of its planes, there has been a rush by the travelling public to secure flight reservations. The normal hourly schedule from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm has not been resumed as flight schedules are now received on a daily basis since only one plane has received clearance to fly the route.
However, officials have indicated that the airline expects to have 16 flights operating today, four more than yesterday’s 12 and should be back to its usual 20 to 25 flights by this weekend. Meanwhile the sea bridge continues to pick up the slack with its additional sailings until further notice. The CAT has now become the “first flight” out for many commuters as the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) recorded an average of 450 passengers per sailing on a weekday and 800 on the weekend since the airplane incident. The PATT has pledged to continue the additional service until operations on the air bridge are back to normal.
