PM’s attorney in CJ case, admitted to the Bar

EIGHT lawyers, including British Queen’s Counsel Douglas Mark Strachan, were admitted to practice at the local Bar on Friday. The simple ceremony took place before Justices Humphrey Stollmeyer and Gregory Smith in the Port-of-Spain First Civil Court. Gilbert Petersen SC presented Strachan’s petition. Strachan has been retained to represent Prime Minister Patrick Manning in the judicial review case filed by Chief Justice Sat Sharma. The other new lawyers are Garth Dominic Gilbert, Kelly-Ann Semper, Rekha Parvati Ramjit, Ainsley Wayne Lucky, Rishi Ramona Kissoon, Reah Meera Sookhai and Ravi Doodnath, son of attorney Krishna Doodnath.

The petitions were presented by Kerwin Garcia, Vashiest Kokaram, Indra Ramoutar-Liverpool, Odai Ramischand, Ravi Rajcoomar and Arthur Douglas. Stollmeyer welcomed the new lawyers to the profession and said the Bench looked forward to a long and warm relationship with them. Petersen, speaking on behalf of the new lawyers, wished them a successful career at the bar. He said this required hard work, dedication and integrity. “Never compromise your integrity. If you lose that, there is no future in the profession,” Petersen added.
