NAR slams Kamla over Dhansook
POLITICAL Leader of the National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR) Lennox Sankersingh, has expressed concern over what he termed “the lack of decency” surrounding the alleged bribe payment by Dansam Dhansook to Minister of Energy Eric Williams and Minister of Works and Transport, Franklin Khan. Speaking at NAR headquarters, Alliance House yesterday, Sankersingh said Siparia MP Kamla Persad-Bissessar lacked decency in dealing with the matter. “It was surprising to see how Persad-Bissessar introduced the matter in the House of Representatives.
It would be expected that if you found a letter in your mailbox with information such as that, you would consult the persons affected and make a copy of the letter for them, before making the situation public. That was the decent thing to do,” Sankersingh said. However, the Siparia MP was quick to fire back at Sankersingh, saying she did not see it necessary to inform anyone of the letter she received. “First of all I did not find it necessary to consult with the persons, because I am of the view they were fully aware of it.
As the PM admitted previously, he was aware of it. And since Khan is chairman of the same party, he too would also have been aware,” Persad-Bissessar said. Persad-Bissessar said the decent thing would have been for ministers not to have been involved in bribes and also for the Prime Minister, on receipt of such allegations, to forward the information to the Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau and the Fraud Squad. “That is the decent thing to do.
I stand by my previous call that the PM should take this issue to the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Fraud Squad,” she said. “As a representative of the people, I have a duty to raise such matter in the people’s forum,” she added. After speaking on the Dhansook issue, Sankersingh moved to the topic of kidnappings saying, “it is high time Government move to solve the problem of kidnappings.” The NAR had already advocated that this island is too small to hide someone,” Sankersingh said.
