Man stabbed dead in Gran Couva


A 34-YEAR-OLD man was walking to his home in Gran Couva during the wee hours of yesterday morning, when he was attacked by a group of men and fatally stabbed. The murder of Lester Baptiste pushed the murder toll to 110 yesterday.


According to a police report, Baptiste of Bel-montes Road, Gran Couva, was with friends in a bar at Corosal Road around 1.20 am, when an argument broke out between him and a group of men.


The report stated that when the argument cooled down, the men dispersed, walking off into the night to their respective homes. According to the report, Baptiste was walking to his home, when on reaching a wooden bridge, three men ran out from some bushes and confronted him.


Police said Baptiste was stabbed several times about his body, and died on the bridge. District Medical Officer Dr Jeelal visited the scene and ordered the removal of Baptiste’s body to the Forensic Science Centre, Port-of-Spain. A party of police officers from the Central Division Police Station led by ASP Terry Archibald and Insp Quash visited the scene. Police investigators said yesterday that they have detained eight persons from the Gran Couva area for questioning to the killing.
