Schoolmates sing for Sarah
"OH GOD, come to mummy... I want my baby," screamed the mother of Sarah Lauren Bholasingh, 13, during a funeral service yesterday for her daughter who was killed in a hit-and-run accident last Thursday on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near San Fernando. Two vehicles passed over the child’s body and in a funeral service yesterday at her Union Village, Claxton Bay home, the child’s mother Debbie Harrynanan cried uncontrollably over Sarah’s sealed casket. Harrynanan, who remarried, came from Canada for the funeral. Like her father Peter Bholasingh and stepmother Michelle, Sarah survived the near death encounter when Bholasingh’s blue Almera veered off the south-bound lane near the Claxton Bay flyover. The incident occurred around 6.15 pm when Bholasingh swerved to avoid a car which overtook him on the left lane. The car somersaulted and landed on its wheels on the grassy median. Shocked and apparently in a daze, Sarah stepped out of the vehicle and ran from the median onto the north-bound lane. She was knocked down by a passing Hilux vehicle which never stopped. Police said Sarah was run over by two other vehicles and those vehicles also did not stop. Sarah was a Form One pupil of Preysal High School and yesterday, her schoolmates, in her memory, sang "Footprints." Family members made an appeal to anyone who may have seen the Hilux vehicle or the two cars which passed over Sarah’s body, to report their information to the Claxton Bay police. Police have also informed repair shops to be on the lookout for vehicles that may contain blood stains or pieces of flesh. "I’ll be Missing You" by Faith Evans and Puff Daddy, was also played, a song which evoked screams of grief from Sarah’s fellow schoolmates. Also paying respect at Sarah’s funeral was Sri Vasudeva, Spiritual Leader of the Blue Star Yoga Centre. Bholasingh was cremated at the Waterloo Cremation Site.
