One critical, one stable


Two men are now warded at the Mt Hope Medical Com-plex, one in a critical condition and the other in a stable condition after a shootout at Tunapuna.


According to reports, around 9.40 am yesterday Damian Jones, 27, was called out from his home at 25 St Cecelia Road, Tunapuna, by a man he knew. On reaching in front the house the man pulled out a gun and a struggle ensued.


During the struggle two shots went off and the gunman was hit in his chest. Damian then turned to a second man who was standing by shooting at him and started running in the man’s direction.


The man ran off into nearby Brath-waite Street where he jumped into a waiting car and sped off .The injured Jones made his way to the Tunapuna police station where he made a report and was later carried to the EWSMC where he was operated on and warded.


At the same time a car resembling that of the getaway vehicle brought in Michael Joseph, 22, of Mt Dor Road, Champ Fleurs with two bullets wounds to his chest. The occupants then drove off.


He too was operated on and warded. Both men who are sedated have not been interviewed up to press time.


When Newsday visited the family home relatives refused to comment.


Police sources told Newsday they believe the men came to kill Jones and he was able to prevent them when he fought back.


Police sources also confirmed they have since issued a warrant for the arrest of a 25-year-old Laven-tille man.
