Woman killed in knife fight with boyfriend
AFTER HE was stabbed in the back with a 16-inch “hog knife” by a female companion, a 49-year-old labourer pulled the knife out of his bleeding wound, chased after the woman and stabbed her several times. The woman, Marilyn Alexander St Clair, 44, a mother of four, was found dead near the Sobo Recreation Ground in La Brea shortly after 3 am yesterday. A suspect, of Sobo Village, is in critical condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. Police investigators said St Clair had known the man for the past ten years. Yesterday’s deadly incident occurred when the man went to his home and saw St Clair at the home of another man next door.
He became angry, went over to the man’s house and accused St Clair of being unfaithful. The couple returned to the suspect’s house where they began fighting. St Clair allegedly grabbed a hog knife and stabbed the man in his back. As the man tried to pull the knife out of his flesh, St Clair ran out of the house. The suspect reportedly ran after the screaming woman. He caught up with her near the recreation ground and stabbed her at least four times in the neck, shoulder and chest. Neighbours who heard the commotion ran out of their homes and found St Clair lying in a pool of blood.
St Clair’s four children, were in shock over her death. A teary-eyed Grantley, 27, St Clair’s eldest son, said his mother was a kind person who would go out of her way to help anyone in need. “My mother would not stab anyone unless she was attacked,” he sobbed. Grantley said he had planned to prepare a meal of fried rice and curried chicken for St Clair as a Mother’s Day treat today. This is the second domestic dispute in two days in which one person was killed and the other hospitalised in a critical condition. Snr Supt Felix Nimrod, ASP David Jemmot and detectives from the La Brea and Siparia police visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
