Remembering Pixie

RADHA Pixie Lakhan, the 16-year-old Palo Seco Government Secondary School student who was reported missing on March 22, and whose body was found buried in a shallow grave late last month, a short distance from her Siparia home, was said to be “independent, outspoken and caring.” Remembering her as a hero of the school system last week, were her classmates Janelle Del Pino, Ray-Ann Hall and Giselle Frederick. Asked about Pixie’s impact on their lives, the girls pointed out that she was more than a friend, and considered her a sister as she was always there in their time of need.

They recalled that Pixie  never let “race, creed or religion come between friendship.” They said she was loving, always had a caring word to share and never found it difficult to assist others in difficult subject areas. “She was the baby amongst us because of how short and cute she was, and we would just sit in class and share secrets about our lives.” About the memories Pixie left with them during her short life, the girls said they would remember her amazing smile which would light up anywhere.

She was also determined, a trait which came out in a simple fund-raising venture for a graduation, when she worked tirelessly, and although it didn’t have a “great turn-out, she was determined to make it work.” In memory of Pixie, the friends dedicated a poem entitled “Love always remembers” to her. “May tender memories soften your grief; May fond recollection bring relief; Any may you find comfort and peace in the thought, of the joy that knowing your loved one brought; For time and space can never divide; Or keep your love one from your side; When memories paint in colour true, the happy hours belonged to you.” A man has since been charged and has appeared in court for Pixie’s murder.
