Attorney: State witness is lying
THE STATE’S main witness in the murder trial of a father and his two sons was yesterday accused of lying on oath about witnessing the fatal stabbing. Defence attorney Wayne Sturge described Otumba Snaggs as a “sight and relay witness,” who was “blatantly lying” when he said he saw Andre “X Files” Lindsey being stabbed and beaten on April 22, 2003, at Lady Young Avenue, Morvant Snaggs, of Pashley Street, Laventille, was giving evidence against Jimmy “Shabazz” Bournes, Nigel “Dufo” Mayers and Akeido Mayers at the Port-of-Spain Second Criminal Court. The three are being tried for Lindsey’s murder before Justice Prakash Moosai.
Rebuking Sturge’s claims that he (Snaggs) had run to the nearby Morvant Police Station for safety following an altercation on the NHA’s Morvant compound on the fateful morning, Snaggs maintained that he had run to his car and driven off during the chaos. He insisted that when he got to the “Y” intersection at Lady Young Avenue, he saw the Mayers brothers stabbing Lindsey in the back, chest and right eye, and he saw Bournes beating him (Lindsey) with a piece of wood before hitting the deceased on the head with a big stone. When hearing resumes on Monday, Sturge will continue his cross-examination of Snaggs.
