Ten murders in four days
TEN murders have been recorded during the last four days. The most recent was the murder of construction worker Roger Jones, 23, who was shot dead around 9.30 pm on Monday night at Thomasine Street, Laventille, in a revenge attack. Four hours before that, the body of Joseph Fortune,19, was found in an abandoned outhouse at Brunton Street, St James, with a bullet wound in his chest. According to reports, on Saturday morning Fortune`s mother told St James police that her son left his Paramin home in Maraval on Friday night to go out with Devon Keer, 23, to meet two other men. On reaching a bushy area at upper Brunton Road, Fortune and Keer were attacked by two men. Keer ran and dived into the car they had hired, ordering the driver to speed off. The car plunged into a deep drain. Keer and the driver climbed through a window and ran off but not before hearing several gunshots. Police visited the area next morning and conducted an unsuccessful search. On Monday attracted by a stench, they found Fortune’s body in the abandoned outhouse. Investigations revealed that Keer once lived at Brunton Road and had gotten into a confrontation with drug pushers in the area. He had returned on Monday night only to pick up two men when the shooting took place. Police believe the shooting was drug related. Ten murders were reported between last Friday and Monday night, bringing the figure to 129 for the year.
