Dad of two executed at home

A Longdenville father of two was executed by a lone gunman who pumped seven bullets into his chest, head and arms, in full view of his wife about 7.30 pm on Thursday. Churan Omadath, 38, a truck driver with Ramco Gas, was seated in a white plastic chair, speaking to his wife Sandra Munoo, 39, at their Peyton Place, Longdenville home when a man dressed in dark clothing, with a pair of black gloves and a powerful automatic gun, fired seven shots at Omadath at point blank range. The shots penetrated his head, chest and arms. Omadath slumped to the ground in a pool of blood. He managed to call his wife Munoo, before he succumbed to the injuries.

His 13-year-old daughter Samantha hid under a bed, while her 17-year-old brother Satish remained motionless in his bedroom. The two were later alerted to the screams of their mother and ran outside to see the body of their father. Police remain baffled over the killing, and were unable to establish a motive for the brutal murder. At Longdenville yesterday, the wife of the murder victim sat in a chair and cried uncontrollably as she recalled the events leading up to the death of her husband. The shocked woman said her husband was a good person and a wonderful father. “He was very good to our children and worked very hard to provide for us,” said Munoo.

According to the mother of two, around 7 pm on Thursday, the killer telephoned her home and asked for her husband. When her husband answered the phone, the caller hung up. Police investigators believe that the caller wanted to make sure that Omadath was at home. Officers of the Chaguanas CID led by Snr Supt Barnett Mayers and including Insp Kirk, Cpl Williams and PC Pierre, along with District Medical Officer Dr Geelal, visited the scene and ordered the removal of the body to the Forensic Science Centre. An autospy carried out yesterday revealed that death was due to shock and haemorrhage consistent with gunshot injuries. Investigations are continuing.
