Govt worker gunned down
A 19-year-old employee of the Social Welfare Department in Aranjuez was shot nine times while at his Satar Trace home in Aranjuez on Tuesday night. Dead is Darryl Haynes, the 134th person murdered this year. Reports revealed that around 9.30 pm, the victim’s father, Moses Haynes, was at his home with his son Darryl, when a man asked for Dale. “I told the man that Dale was not at home, but he insisted that he had come to meet and pray with Dale,” said an emotional Moses Haynes. He added that the man pulled out a gun from his waist, stormed into the house and confronted Darryl, who was in the bedroom.
The killer pumped nine bullets into the teenager’s body. He was killed instantly. As the gunman fled the scene, he was joined by three of his accomplices who were also armed with guns. Officers of the Barataria Police Station were alerted and went to the scene. The body was viewed by a District Medical Officer and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.
Relatives of the dead man insisted yesterday that Darryl was an honest God-fearing person who did not deserve such a horrible death. Moses Haynes told Newsday he will not rest until the killer is arrested and brought to justice. “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,” said Moses, as he puffed on a cigarette on the porch of his home. His other son, Dale, has been advised to stay away from the area pending the investigation into the killing. Investigations are continuing.
