3 arrested, boat and $1M ganja seized in high sea drama

THREE men, two Trinidadians and a Venezuelan citizen were arrested on Wednesday night, while their boat and $1Million worth of compressed marijuana were seized in a high sea drama at Tyrico Bay, Maracas. According to reports at about 8 pm on Wednesday officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station were on routine patrol along the North Coast Road, Maracas when on reaching the Tyrico Bay area they observed men removing large crocus bags from a boat. The officers confronted the men.


Two ran off, while three pulled out to sea. The Coast Guard were contacted and intercepted three men aboard a boat with a quantity of bags containing marijuana. The officers called for back up and a team of men headed by Snr Supt Bishop and Insp Koon Koon, Sgt Chatoo, including members of the Organised Crime and Narcotic Unit responded and went into the village to search for the two escapees to no avail.


The boat was impounded at Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas, while the marijuana which weighed 100 kilogrammes was handed over to the Maracas Bay police. Sgt Chatoo of the Maracas Bay police is continuing inquiries. With the recent discovery and the reports of increased crimes in the coastal areas around holiday times police will be intensifying their presence around the north coast. Similar action will be taken along all normal holiday making coastal areas in TT.
