No Parliament fireworks this week
AFTER WEEKS of in-tense political drama in both Houses of Parlia-ment, the parliamentary agenda appears to be relatively tame this week after the long holiday weekend. The main order of business will be Friday’s 1.30 pm sitting of the Lower House where debate is expected to begin on a motion by Opposition Chief Whip Ganga Singh which seeks to annul the Free-dom of Information (Exemption) Order 2005.
Debate is also expected to continue on a motion to affirm the Elections and Boundaries Commission Order 2005, which proposes to in-crease the number of constituencies in Trini-dad and Tobago from 36 to 41. There will be no sitting of the Senate this week, and the Upper House will next sit on June 7. At that time, the main items for debate will be the Home Mortgage Bank (Amend-ment) Bill 2004, Pilotage (Amendment) Bill 2005 and the Anti-Terrorism Bill 2004. The UNC is due to meet in caucus at Rienzi Complex to discuss options to reinstate suspended Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma.
