Cops’ homes searched for missing firearm

The homes of 12 officers attached to the Tunapuna Police Station have been searched after a 9 mm pistol disappeared on May 30, Indian Arrival Day. According to reports, an officer of Amalgamated Security Ltd booked in the gun at 3.30 pm. When the sentry at the station checked the weapons at the turnover at 6 pm, the gun was missing. Charge room officers on that shift were later searched. While the investigation continues, the officers who worked the particular shift have been transferred or rerouted to other shifts. Officers of Amal-gamated Security Company refused to comment about the missing firearm.

Meanwhile, senior officers have thrown a blanket on information, claiming it is very sensitive and is being investigated by the “big brass.” Officers describe the gun as “antique” equipment which has little use in modern times. In an unrelated matter, Teteron Barracks remains locked down as army intelligence continues its search for a missing Browning 9mm pistol. The gun went missing on Wednesday during the daily check by army officials, and an entire shutdown was done in the camp, resulting in all members of the Support and Service Battalion being confined to barracks.

Public relations officer of the Regiment, Capt Al Alexander, would only say that investigations are ongoing and that there are suspects. He added that he could not say much as it is being handled at a very high level. Similarly, a Galil assault rifle was removed from Camp Ogden in St James last July. Two soldiers have since been charged with the offence and discharged from the service.
