Woman shot trying to drag bandit
A 42-year-old woman was shot on Saturday night after she tried to drag a bandit out of her $35,000 car in a failed attempt to stop him from stealing the vehicle. Fatima Ali, of Kalicharan Lands, La Romaine, was struck on her left arm and is warded in a stable condition at the San Fenando General Hospital. It was around 8.45 pm that Ali drove up in front a mini mart at Drayton Street, San Fernando in her silver B-14 Nissan Sentra. According to a report, Ali left her daughter in the car and went into the mini mart. Shortly after, two men armed with a gun approached the car and ordered Ali out of the vehicle.
The two bandits subsequently entered the vehicle. On seeing this, Ali ran to the car, grabbed one of the bandits and tried to pull him out of the vehicle. At this point the bandit fired two shots one of which hit Ali on her arm. The men then sped off. Quickly responding to the scene were PCs Lawrence Suphal and Wendel Branch attached to the Marabella-based E-999 Rapid Response Unit.
The officers rushed the injured woman to the hospital where she was treated and admitted in a stable condition. An All Points Bulletin was issued but police did not find the car until 12.30 am yesterday morning. The car was found intact at Tortuga Village, Gran Couva. Investigators believe the vehicle may have been used to commit a crime since the number plate was found in the back seat of the car. PC Fortune of the San Fernando CID is continuing investigations.
