Teen gunned down in Laventille

The body of an unidentified teenager was yesterday found with a bullet wound at the back of the head at Low Place, Laventille.

According to reports, area residents heard the sound of a gunshot around 2.30 pm. On investigation, they found the body of a teenager of African decent dressed in a blue jersey, black shirt, and blue and red sneakers lying face down in a pool of blood at the top of a hill.

When Newsday visited the area, residents claimed they did not know the boy, who appeared to be approximately 15 years old, but they believed he was related to a family with a bakery in the area. When Newsday visited the bakery, however, no one was available to comment.

The unidentified teenager is the 157th person murdered in this country in 2005.

Fifty-one murders have already been recorded in the Port-of-Spain Division in 2005.

Although the figures for gun-related deaths were similar for the same period last year, there had been only 109 murders recorded by this time last year.
