Guard caught with stolen goods
A Petit Valley man secured his car at the Hi-Lo carpark in Maraval on Tuesday night. When he returned hours later, he found the trunk broken into and 14 golf clubs and a cart missing. The items were valued at $11,000. Richard Peyreau reported the theft at the St Clair Police Station. Officers carried out enquiries and detained a 20-year-old security guard attached to Intercept Security. The guard gave a statement to the police, which noted that he found the car keys belonging to Peyreau and took the missing items.
Officers of the St Clair CID recovered the missing items and contacted Peyreau. The stolen items were handed over to Peyreau, and the guard was allowed to go free. Police officers are calling for an investigation into the matter because they feel that their colleagues had enough evidence to charge the security guard. They added that only the magistrate at the court must decide if the suspect should be freed or charged.
