Panday’s case put off to Sept 13

OPPOSITION Leader Basdeo Panday made his third appearance before Senior Magistrate Ejenny Espinet in the Port-of-Spain First Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer the charge of corruptly receiving 25,000 pounds sterling from businessman Ish Galbaransingh and former government minister Carlos John.

The hearing was very short and the case was adjourned to September 13 when John, Galbaransingh and Oma Panday will re-appear. On the two previous occasions Panday indicated that he would represent himself, but yesterday he had a lawyer. Ravi Rajcoomar said Panday accepted advice to have an attorney represent him. There was a handful of supporters to greet the former prime minister, including Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Wade Mark, Chandresh Sharma, and Orlando Nagessar.
