Carenage man charged with killing boy, three
A CARENAGE man yesterday appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate charged with the murder of a three-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten to death. Oloye Mc Carthy, 27, of L’Anse Mitan Road, Carenage, appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls in the Eighth Court. He was charged with the July 27 murder of three-year-old Ronaldo Williams by Cpl Neville Adams of the Carenage Police Station. An unrepresented Mc Carthy was not called on to plead, and the matter was adjourned to August 15. It is reported that Ronaldo’s mother Hanefah Williams left the boy in the care of a male relative and went to collect an Unemployment Relief Pro-gramme (URP) cheque in Diego Martin. At about 12.15 pm, a neighbour carrying the seemingly lifeless child called out to the mother. Ronaldo was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. He was then transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Autopsy results confirmed that the child was beaten with a blunt object and sustained injuries to his pelvic bone and head.
