Woman’s battered body found in Central
MURDER NUMBER 221 for the year is a 20-year-old woman of Caparo Village, Caroni, who was stabbed nine times about her body early yesterday morning. The girl’s body was dumped on a lonely road in Carlsen Field, Chase Village, Chaguanas. Police said yesterday that the killing of Keisha Thornhill of Main Road, Caparo, was among the more gruesome that they had witnessed for some time. At 6.30 am yesterday, a man riding a bicycle on his way to work spotted the body of a woman at Xeres Street, Carlsen Field. The body was lying face up at the side of the street, which is thick with bushes and trees, and houses far apart. Police investigators have ruled out robbery as the motive for the killing, as Thornhill’s wallet with a small amount of cash was found close to the body. The body was clad in a tank top, blue denim jeans and a pair of black sneakers. A party of police officers from the Freeport Police Station, Couva and Chaguanas CID visited the scene. Preliminary investigations were conducted and the young woman was identified. Police said yesterday that Thornhill may have been murdered elsewhere, before her body was dumped in Carlsen Field. District Medical Officer Dr Indarjit Birjah viewed the body and ordered it removed to the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain, where an autopsy will be performed. Police said Thornhill was killed around midnight Thursday.
