FBI anti-kidnapping seminar for local cops

THE FEDERAL Bureau of Investigations (FBI) yesterday opened a five-day anti-kidnapping seminar at the Police Training College, St James Barracks, Port-of-Spain.

Addressing the opening of the seminar, National Security Minister Martin Joseph indicated that the training, for some 30 members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, is in keeping with the ministry’s vision to ensure public safety and security through the maintenance of law and order and the dedication of all available resources to the protection of life and property.

Joseph told the participants that the training they would receive in the seminar would enable them to carry out investigative work in a more efficient and effective manner, thus leading to greater crime detection and crime resolution.

The seminar was organised by the US Embassy in Port-of-Spain. In a statement, the National Security Ministry said the seminar underscores the longstanding friendly relations and cooperative spirit between TT and the US with regard to national security issues.

The ministry added that FBI facilitators will share the most modern methods of crimefighting and detection with local police officers, "particularly in the area of kidnapping."
