AG Jeremie studies file on Licensing Dept controversy
Attorney General John Jeremie is currently studying a file which was sent to him last week on the controversy surrounding the contract for the computerisation of the Licensing Department. Yesterday, Jeremie declined to comment on reports that the matter was now heading for the courts, in the face of continued squabbling between two key stakeholders, primarily UNDP and Company B — the joint venture TT/US company favoured to win the contract and in the light of an attempt by officials of the UNDP to halt the tendering process. Sources at the AG Department said a "big file" had been sent to him and that the AG had just begun looking at it. He (Jeremie) was therefore not in a position to make any comment on the matter, they added. It is also understood that Jeremie met with officials of the Ministry of Works on the issue last week. A report in Sunday Newsday stated that Company B had referred the matter to its attorneys last Thursday, after being informed by Deputy Resident UNDP Representative Claudio Providas that the UNDP, which is handling the project in conjunction with the Ministry of Works, had annulled the soliciting process for the project.
