Police promotions coming next week
Police corporals and sergeants who have qualified for promotion may receive their letters of appointment by next week. Sources at the Police Service Commission revealed that the list submitted by the Police Service for promotions to the rank of sergeants and inspectors has been approved, and will be released next week. This means that the Police Service will get 72 new inspectors and more than 250 new sergeants. Promotions were last made in the Police Second Division in May, 2003. Newsday learnt that promotions for constables were delayed because it was discovered that some of the staff reports of some constables had not been signed by senior officers, and in some cases not properly prepared by their senior officers. The staff reports have been sent back to the various police divisions for the errors to be ironed out. Newsday learnt that a number of sergeants who received letters indicating that they have been bypassed for promotion, challenged the letters and sent their complaints via letters to the Police Service Commission. Those matters have since been dealt with. Yesterday, officers in line for promotion said they are eagerly awaiting their letters. They feel that morale will be boosted as a result of the upcoming promotions.
