Laventille man killed by stray bullet


A 36-year-old father of two was shot dead Tuesday evening while driving his car along Prizgar Road, Laventille, near his home.


Police reports revealed that Sheldon Douglas was driving his car at about 7.45 pm, when he was struck by a stray bullet.


Douglas crashed his car into a gate and was found slumped over in his car.


Officers of the Besson Street Police Station were alerted as well as a District Medical Officer. The body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.


The killing of Douglas is the 233rd shooting death for the year so far.


When Newsday visited the scene of the killing, residents refused to be interviewed claiming that they feared for their lives.


Relatives of the dead man were also uncooperative.


Officers of the Besson Street Police Station are investigating.
