High school students celebrate CXC results

HUNDREDS of students from South Trinidad who sat this year’s Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exam were yesterday described by their respective principals and teachers as scholars in their own right.

As the students made their way to their respective schools, many of them showed exuberance upon perusing their results. At Naparima and Presentation Colleges, students hugged each other while some shook hands and congratulated each other.

Presentation Boys’ (San Fernando) College principal Errol Jaikaransingh, told Newsday he was very delighted with this year’s results. "We got mixed results especially in the subject of Geography. But overall, the results this year were better when compared to last year," Jaikaransingh said.

The school principal said many students from his school obtained distinctions in English, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. Jaikaransingh said that the majority of students got full certificates.

In the school’s first attempt at CXC, the Shiva Boys High School gained a one hundred percent pass rate in Chemistry and Integrated Science. Acting school principal Dexter Sakal, told Newsday there was a nine percent pass rate by students in Biology, Social Studies and Principles of Business.

The school recorded an 85 percent pass rate in Information Technology, Geography and English A.

It was a remarkable achievement for Shiva High, Sakal said, given its first attempt.

The school intends to embark on establishing a co-educational Sixth Form.
