Wanted woman held

A SANGRE Grande woman, who was wanted by police for murder, was arrested on Saturday evening as she walked down Frederick Street with four men. She was leaving the Hasely Crawford Stadium after the Trinidad and Tobago vs Guatemala football match.

The five were held in connection with the shooting of Richard Sudeen, a 20-year- old mechanic. He was shot several times outside his Foster Road home in Sangre Grande last Thursday.

According to reports, Sudeen was bathing at his home when he was called out by a friend who asked him to buy a cigarette. He was talking to his friend when he was approached by a gunman who fired several shots at him. He was struck on the right side of his head, once in the mouth and twice in the chest. He died while undergoing emergency surgery at Sangre Grande Hospital. Police investigators believe that Sudeen’s murder may be linked to a recent argument between himself and a woman he knew.

Earlier Saturday afternoon the police went to a relative of the female suspect in San Juan and were told that she had gone to the football match. The officers went to the stadium in several unmarked vehicles but could not locate the wanted woman

They set up road blocks on streets leading out of the city. The woman and four men were arrested on Frederick Street.

She was dressed in game colours, a red shirt and black pants. Several bystanders who saw the suspects being arrested shouted, "Arrest them! Arrest them!"

The suspects were taken to the Besson Street police station, then transferred to the Sangre Grande Police Station where they remain in custody. A post-mortem on the body of Sudeen is due to be performed today before charges are laid.

Snr Supt Rodvan Bastien, Insp Fermin Roy, Sgt Kennedy Deosaran, Cpl Christopher Fuentes, A/Cpl Beverly Paul, Detectives Allan Khan, Ken Rampersad, Neil Narine, Ramharak Gadhar, Randy Castillo and Anil Baboolal co-ordinated the investigations.
