Cricketer kidnapped in Glencoe

A Glencoe man who is a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 cricket team was snatched outside a house at Samara Park, Pt Cumana, on Wednesday night.

Justin Raymond Guillen, who is also a member of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club, was standing near a house at Samara Park at 9.15 pm on Wednesday, when he was bundled into a car by two men. Guillen is the son of Jeffrey Guillen, real estate developer, and Judy Raymond, a Trinidad Guardian editor. Neither his father nor his mother was available for comment yesterday.

Up to late yesterday, no ransom had been demanded and officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were following leads in the kidnapping.

A relative of Guillen, who preferred to remain anonymous, yesterday said the young man has a bright future in cricket. Justin recently won the club award for Young Cricketer of the Year from the Queen’s Park Cricket Club.

The relative expressed concern about the spate of kidnappings in the country, and called on the Government to put measures in place to deal with organised crime. The kidnapping of Guillen is the 44th for the year. When Newsday visited the scene of the kidnapping, neighbours expressed fear over the spate of kidnappings in the country.

They said they never expected a kidnapping in their quiet neighbourhood.

Justin’s uncle, Charles, is the coach of the Merry Boys Cricket Club.
