$25,000 reward to find bomber

Crime Stoppers yesterday offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of any person or persons involved in yesterday’s blast at the back of the Independence Square outlet of Kentucky Fried Chicken. In a release yesterday, Crime Stoppers called on anyone with information to call 800-8477. At the scene of the blast yesterday, eyewitnesses said that just after midday, while the restaurant was crowded, a loud explosion was heard at the back of the restaurant.

People who were having their meals scampered out of the building followed closely by KFC employees. A man who was having lunch when the blast occurred told Sunday Newsday that he left the outlet so hurriedly that he left behind his bag of groceries. The man who lives in Laventille said that he is quite disturbed over the spate of crime in the country and feels that Trinidad is no longer a safe place. Another person who fled KFC said that she was putting ketchup on fries when the bomb exploded.

She said that she left the fries and ran out of KFC and into the Brian Lara Promenade where she monitored activities. KFC employees who were seated in the promenade were given firm instructions not to speak to the media. One KFC employee was heard saying that he was about to take a garbage bag to the back when the explosion occurred.
