Rudolph ‘Nap’ Hepburn to be buried on Friday
THE funeral service for the late veteran calypsonian Rudolph "Nap" Hepburn will take place at the Trinity Cathedral on Hart Street, Port-of-Spain, tomorrow at 3 pm, after which the body will be interred at the Lapeyrouse Cemetery in Newtown. Nap’s remains arrived in Trinidad on Monday, after a service in Brooklyn, New York, last Saturday that was attended by several Trinidad and Tobago calypsonians who were in the Big Apple fulfilling contractual obligations. The 79-year-old entertainer died one week ago at his Brooklyn home after a stroke he had suffered a few days before. Yesterday, the Caribbean Sunshine Awards released the following statement from its chairman and founder, Gil Figaro, Sr. "On behalf of the Caribbean Sunshine Awards and on my own behalf, I extend sincere condolences to the family of Nap Hepburn and to the people and Government of Trinidad and Tobago on the passing of this legend of calypso music. "In 1999, Nap Hepburn and the March of Dimes were inducted into the Caribbean Sunshine Awards Hall of Fame as a tribute to their long, exciting and distinguished contribution to Caribbean music. "Nap was a remarkable man with remarkable talent. "Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean have lost a musical talent whose contribution in his own unique style, to the music and culture of the region, will be his lasting legacy. He will be missed but never forgotten. "The Caribbean Sunshine Awards and I join his family and all lovers of music in saying farewell to this very special man." Nap leaves to mourn his wife Janet, son Michael, and daughter Camille, as well as his sisters, grand and great grand children.
