Brothers killed 11 days apart
Eleven days after his 28-year-old brother Luthar King was executed in a drive-by shooting, a 19-year-old man suffered a similar fate when he was riddled with bullets while riding a bicycle near his Fiddlers Dream home at Cocorite Road, Arima, yesterday. Ryan King was shot in the head, chest and lower part of his body while riding in front of Rodney’s Supermarket at about 2 pm yesterday. His murder is the 265th for the year. The dead man’s mother Marilyn King and other relatives stood behind a police tape staring at the lifeless body as heavy rain drenched his blood stained body. An eyewitness told police investigators that Ryan was turning into Fiddlers Dream on his bicycle when occupants of a car started firing at him. He slumped to the ground in a pool of blood and died. Officers from the Arima Police Station led by Supt Badal and including acting Insp Johnny Abraham went to the scene along with a district medical officer. The area was cordoned off and Cocorite Road, near the crime scene, was closed to vehicular traffic. People gathered outside Rodney’s Supermarket to catch a glimpse of the body. Nearby, the victim’s sister shouted out in grief and shock, "Ryan wake up, Ah cook soup for you at home. Wake up brother!" When the cloth covering the body was lifted for the police photographer to photograph the body, screams of anguish echoed throughout the area. Area residents told Newsday that Ryan had complained of threats to his life two days ago, and had predicted that his life was in danger. Police investigators told Newsday that they are working on a number of leads in the murder, saying that arrests were imminent. Last Monday, Luthar King, Ryan’s brother, was driving a car along Colombus Street, Arima, with his mother Marilyn and daughter Victoria, when he was shot seven times. Police received information that a gang of men operating from the Pinto Road area is responsible for the shootings.
