Search for missing head continues

Police investigators yesterday continued the search for the head of murdered businessman Edward Koury in several areas of Caparo and Arima. The headless body of Koury, 38, was discovered on Friday afternoon in bushes at Caparo. On Friday, Curtis Koury, the brother of Edward viewed his headless body at the Port-of-Spain Mortuary, and told police investigators that the body resembled that of his brother. Tomorrow an autopsy on the body will be carried out at the Forensic Science Centre. Relatives of Koury refused to comment on the murder yesterday saying that they preferred not to say anything at this time.

Homicide officers probing the murder also remained tight lipped about the status of their investigations. Sunday Newsday learned that a suspect being quizzed in connection with the abduction of Koury has given useful information to investigating officers. The suspect told investigators that Ko-ury was stabbed three times in the chest shortly after he was snatched on Wednesday at the Macoya Industrial Estate. The Director of Public Prosecutions will be consulted tomorrow on whether to lay a charge of murder against five persons detained since last Wednesday.

Yesterday, President of the Chamber of Commerce Paul Que-snel said “We are shocked and horrified over this brutal murder, and we trust that the Government will put things in place to deal with crime, with utmost urgency.” He added that the authorities must do whatever it takes to deal with the horrible crime situation. The chamber presi-dent said that tomorrow, the chamber will be making a more detailed statement on the current crime situation. Last week, the chamber called on Govern-ment to bring in foreign help to deal with the crime situation.
