Mother’s throat slit
A St Helena mother of seven, Shanti Samaroo, had her throat slit by a man known to her on Saturday night. She became the country’s 273rd murder victim for the year. Samaroo was last seen alive at about 9 pm at Pineridge Heights, Lopinot, with a male companion. Reports revealed that the two were seen arguing. The man dealt Samaroo several chops and then slit her throat. Her body was later discovered by residents of Lopinot. Officers from the Arouca police station have detained a 43-year old man in connection with the murder. Relatives said that she was involved in a love triangle, and was physically abused on a regular basis.
Samaroo lived at Oropune Village, Piarco, but also shared a close relationship with another man at Dinsley Village, Tacarigua. Her one and a half old daughter is staying at the home of relatives. A wooden house occupied by her six children at Tacarigua was gutted by fire and her children are staying at the homes of Tacarigua villagers. Police officers said yesterday that following an autopsy on the body of Samaroo, a suspect is expected to be charged with murder. Rakesh Suklal and his brother Randy, two sons of the dead woman remained in shock yesterday and were wondering where to get the money for funeral expenses. They are calling on members of the public to assist them in whatever way possible.
